The Right Brain and Imagery
Years ago, I took a course in visual journaling to draw intuitively. My teacher explained how our right brain processes images from our senses, and the left brain translates them into words. This quick interaction shapes our perceptions but often limits them due to societal norms and beliefs. In my visual journaling class, I learned to slow this process, allowing the image to unfold in my right brain. For instance, what I initially perceived as frustration revealed underlying sadness and grief through imagery. This process allowed me to understand my emotions better and transform them.
Almost a decade later, I was introduced to SMGI®, where I reconnected with these images, embarked on an inner journey, and healed my ‘t’raumas and ‘T’raumas, transforming my inner and outer experiences. Wow! It was powerful!
Understanding Imagery in SMGI®
In SMGI®, the imagery we refer to is our imagination. It’s not about visual images but about whatever we imagine. Everyone has an imagination, often used in worrying, where we imagine something bad happening. This power of imagination creates everything in our world. In SMGI®, we harness this power, breaking conventional rules of meditation and incorporating imagination into the healing process.
Client Empowerment and Inner Wisdom
SMGI® is built on the philosophy that there’s nothing wrong with the journeyer; instead, each person is a heroic soul on a journey of self-discovery. This perspective honors the power and beauty within every individual. As guides, we recognize that the journeyer is not broken or defective. Each journeyer has already overcome significant challenges, and our role is to respect and honor their essential self. This profound respect for the journeyer’s inner wisdom allows them to feel empowered and validated, leading to deeper healing and transformation.
The Impact of Imagery on Emotions
Imagery in SMGI® helps us connect with our emotions on a deeper level. For instance, what I initially perceived as frustration revealed underlying sadness and grief through imagery. This process allowed me to understand my emotions better and transform them. SMGI® uses this technique to help individuals connect with their feelings, giving shape, color, and personalities to sensations in our bodies and emotions, leading to profound insights and healing.
Guided Imagery vs. Guided Visualization
A key difference in SMGI® is the use of guided imagery instead of guided visualization. In guided visualization, a guide directs you to visualize specific things. One of the most significant aspects of SMGI® is the freedom it offers to imagine your own safe and comforting places. This freedom reduces resistance and performance anxiety, making the process more effective and empowering.
Unlike traditional methods that direct you, SMGI® allows you to imagine and create your own experiences. This approach honors your inner wisdom and supports your unique journey. Whether it’s connecting with a good place or processing uncomfortable emotions, SMGI® provides a safe space for your inner exploration.
Benefits of Guided Imagery
Research on guided imagery shows that it is a powerful therapeutic tool for emotional healing. Guided imagery helps individuals visualize calming and positive scenarios, which can significantly reduce stress and anxiety. It also aids in emotional regulation for those suffering from PTSD and can be particularly beneficial in trauma recovery.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the benefits of mind-body therapies such as guided imagery for cancer patients. Research has shown that these techniques can significantly reduce anxiety, pain, and fatigue, while improving mood, quality of life, and sleep quality.
In the business realm, guided imagery and hypnotic techniques have been proven to boost creative problem-solving and improve negotiation skills.
